JOB TITLE
Substitute School Nurse
REPORTS TO
District Nurse Supervisor and Building Administrator
JOB SUMMARY
Maintain standard clinic activities in the absence of the school nurse Provide care for illnesses and/or accidents during the school day. Promote the health, well-being and academic achievement of all students by performing assessment of health disorders and providing treatment and/or appropriate medical intervention.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Holds valid Vermont License as a Registered Nurse 2. Successful Background Clearance 3. Current Basic Life Support Certification
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess the health of students using the nursing process; appraise health needs as they relate to the educational environment and in accordance with district policy and state mandates. Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and confidential documentation for care provided Serve as liaison between the education and health communities by providing health guidance to students, school personnel and parents Perform health care as required by student need and according to provider orders, including medication administration according to the Rights of Medication Administration. Communicate with families about their student's health needs, as needed Assist with yearly hearing and vision screenings Attend field trips to carry out a student's special health needs Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Ability to implement health care specific to student needs 2. Ability to organize and set priorities 3. Ability to exercise independent judgment, remain flexible, and work effectively under pressure 4. Ability to respond to urgent and emergent medical situations, provide first aid. 5. Ability to interact with children in a warm, caring, and confident manner
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, crouch, reach, talk, and hear conversations
