JOB SUMMARY
The RN in the Family Birth Center provides safe nursing care in a timely manner to patients on the assigned unit with a high degree of independence. Performs within the scope of a RN as defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing. Pay Range $36.0000 to $56.7100 USD
PRE-REQUISITES
Education:
 Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or enrolled in an accredited Direct Entry to Master of Science in Nursing Program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Vermont (VT RN license or Compact State RN), BSN preferred
Experience:
2-3 years L&D experience. Successful completion of FBC orientation and IV certification. Previous clinical experience in obstetrical, pediatric and neonatal nursing preferred.
Certifications Required:
Intermediate/Advanced EFM course and NRP certification. PALS or proficiency/education in obstetric emergencies encouraged;

FBC Nurse Director Other Contacts:
Shift administrator, physicians, patients, families, visitors, public, forensic staff, hospital staff, and other healthcare practitioners
SCOPE:
Machinery or Equipment Used:
Patient monitoring devices, cast removal saw, IV pumps, patient transport devices, needles/syringes, computer, basic office equipment, and other patient care equipment
Physical Demands:
Occasional sitting, lifting up to 50 lbs., kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching, and awkward positions. Frequent twisting, bending, squatting, stooping, reaching and pushing/pulling. Constant standing and walking
Working Conditions:
Exposure to crisis situations and unpleasant elements of acute traumatic injuries, accidents and illness. Frequently exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Exposed to hazards from electrical equipment. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and stress/pressure due to multiple patient needs
Required Protective Equipment:
All Personal Protective Equipment and situation and patient condition dictates
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Acknowledges and adheres to limits of experience and capability Identifies learning needs and seeks resources Utilizes equipment and supplies appropriately Maintain clean, orderly environment of care Ensures noise and traffic control in "sensitive areas" Seeks out and accepts feedback Requests assistance appropriately 6. Applies leadership skills. Appropriately utilizes scope of practice for self and others Interacts with others in professional manner Manages conflict Delegates and assigns care Coordinates care within multi-disciplinary team Maintains professional conversation/conduct in environment of care 7. Incorporates teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion by: Provides appropriate information to patient Assesses for barriers to learning Uses colleagues as a learning resource Provides counseling about health behaviors Supports the preceptorship program, students and job shadow experiences 8. Applies knowledge integration skills for the patient population served within unit. Provides age specific care Applies knowledge of expected norms in planning care Applies new data to improve care Integrates technical, psychological, social, intellectual and physical skills 9. Demonstrates the unit specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served.
