Job Description
This posting is for a Temporary Ed Para Specialist-Nurse for the 2026-27 school year. The position is for an LPN for the general student population. An RN candidate will also be considered. The position is 7.0 hrs per day with an anticipated schedule of 7:25 am - 2:25 pm. The position is anticipated to be assigned to W.F. West High School. Position ends June 11, 2027 or the last day of school. In-District applicants, who are permanent employees and current members of the Teamsters bargaining group, should apply by 3 p.m., May 15, 2026, and will receive first consideration. The job of the Temporary Ed Para Specialist-Nurse is described below.Essential Job Functions :
Ability to lift and support students as needed Ability to work with other staff members and parents/guardians Assist in toileting, communication, motor, and self-help programs Assist in the implementation of program designed to increase students' skills Confer with therapists, teachers, parents, other personnel, and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information Attend meetings (i.e. IEP conferences, parent meetings, in-services, etc.) for the purpose of providing information regarding students' functional goals Assist in the preparation of documentation (i.e. evaluations, IEPs, observations, progress, contracts with parents, teachers, and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support for developing recommendations and/or conveying information Research resources and methods (i.e. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the determination of appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals Assist with screening students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment Administer first aid for the purpose of providing emergency careOther Job Functions :
Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities Confer with teachers, parents, and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives Participate in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation Complete work at assigned workstations Consistently deal with people in a polite and civil manner Perform other duties as assignedJob Requirements/Preferences :
AA degree in Nursing required; LPN or RN licensure Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance First Aid/CPR Certification Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children; Experience and/or training with special needs students preferred Experience and/or training in sociology/psychology/behavior management preferred Skills, Knowledge, and/orAbilities Preferred :
Skills to apply assessment techniques and treatment modalities under direct supervision, communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents Skills to perform basic computer functions, including the use of basic computer applications, use English in both written and verbal form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Provide for hygienic special health care needs of students. Knowledge of the principles of child development. Knowledge of assessment techniques and treatment modalities, district policies, and child development patterns. Abilities to understand and address students with special needs, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of situations; significant physical abilities include stopping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision and may include lifting/carrying 25 lbs or more.Additional Job Information:
This position is temporary and not subject to the terms or conditions of the Teamsters Bargaining Unit Agreement; includes pro-rated health benefits and sick leave; does not include paid holidays or personal days. Temporary positions end on the last student day of the current school year or upon change in program needs.Compensation and Benefits:
Temporary positions are subject to the terms or conditions of the Teamsters Local 252 Bargaining Agreement per Article 1.2.5 Temporary Employee. Temporary positions include health benefits, as described below, and sick leave. It does not include paid holidays or personal days. See Article 7-Leaves and Article 16-Schedule A.
