Washington State Certification (ESA) as School Nurse or ability to pursue that credential Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred •Compensation will differ dependent upon certification Maintain nursing license, ESA certification, first aid, and CPR certifications. Experience in school nursing or health education desirable. Strong skills in physical assessment of children, counseling, and teaching. Knowledge of medical and educational disabilities and desirable interventions. Skills in organization, report writing and program planning. Ability to work in an educational setting as a health care oriented individual. Excellent attendance and punctuality.Training and Knowledge Desired:
Experience in school nursing, public health and pediatric practice desirable. Ability and willingness to acquire knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding the health care of students in an educational setting. Ability to identify, interpret, and communicate health problems of students or staff to appropriate individuals or agencies. Maintain confidentiality, and perform duties in accordance with established guidelines, local, state, and federal laws. Knowledge of basic first aid and health care practices and procedures. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of children. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural setting.Duties:
Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records for all students. Obtain, review, and update health information on all students yearly. Perform mandated screening, referral and follow-up. Develop and revise health care plans for students with significant health problems. Serve as a liaison between students, staff, families, and community health sources. Assist students and parents in obtaining adequate medical, dental, and mental health care. Perform professional nursing services including emergency care as needed when on site. Provide comprehensive school health services to meet the physical, academic, social-emotional development of students. Provide for the health needs of medically fragile children in accordance with IEP/504 requirements, directly or via consultation with staff. Provide training for administration of medication and health procedures as permitted by law to unlicensed non-nurse school staff. Appraise and monitor immunization status of each student. Provide crisis intervention for students as needed. Keep appraised of current legislation pertaining to school nurse practice. Work closely with health room staff, teaching, supervising and delegating duties as appropriate. Assist in revising district health policies and procedures as needed. Other related duties and responsibilities as needed.Physical Requirements:
The job's functions requires the following physical demands: Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds); carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
