Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Labor and Delivery to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing exceptional patient care during childbirth and postpartum periods in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in obstetric nursing, critical care, and emergency response, ensuring the safety and well-being of mothers and newborns. This position offers an opportunity to work night shifts on a 36-hour schedule, contributing to comprehensive maternal health services across diverse patient populations.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum stages, adhering to hospital protocols and safety standards Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs continuously, responding promptly to any abnormalities Assist with obstetric procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and sterile techniques Administer medications including pain management, antibiotics, and IV infusions with precision and adherence to HIPAA regulations Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, anesthesiologists, and neonatal staff to coordinate patient care Educate patients on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care practices Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner Maintain infection control standards and aseptic techniques throughout all procedures Respond effectively to emergency situations including obstetric hemorrhage or trauma cases in Level I or Level II trauma center settings Support patients with special needs such as those with developmental disabilities or requiring memory care Benefits of this position include exposure to diverse clinical scenarios, opportunities for professional growth in obstetrics and critical care, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on maternal health outcomes. Requirements Valid RN license in the state of Washington or appropriate state licensure for travel nurses Minimum of two years of recent hospital experience in labor and delivery units Critical care experience preferred, including ICU or emergency medicine backgrounds Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10 coding is advantageous Experience with obstetric procedures like suturing, catheterization, IV insertion, and sterile technique Knowledge of fetal monitoring protocols and acute pain management strategies Ability to work night shifts on a 36-hour schedule with flexibility for overtime if needed Strong assessment skills in physiology, anatomy, and patient care documentation standards Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and efficiently Candidates with additional expertise in areas such as neonatal ventilator management, labor support techniques, or working with diverse populations including pediatric or geriatric patients are highly valued.
