Our Registered Nurse - Perioperative , reports to the Director of Surgical Services and performs the following duties to support
Edgerton Hospital:
Maintaining AORN Intraoperative Standards of Care. Ability to independently work general, orthopedic, OB/GYN, ENT, dental, podiatry, urology, pain management, and other related surgical cases including endoscopy. Prepares patients for a variety of surgical procedures Assesses plans and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after a surgical procedure. Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures. Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients. Participates in the care of patients receiving conscious sedation. Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, and monitors vital signs. Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Coordinates the operating room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning equipment and supplies. Ensures the proper handling of specimens. Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Orients and mentors new staff members. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Assists with GI procedures including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopies.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to perform essential functions of a Perioperative Registered Nurse in pre-operative, intra-operative, post-anesthesia care and post-operative care. Ability to perform wide range of procedures including but not limited to; cardiac, GI, gynecology, pediatric dental, general surgery, podiatry, ENT, ophthalmology. Ability to execute proper use, care and handling of surgical equipment to ensure safety of operating staff and the patient. Ability to communicate continuously with the operating team and other medical staff to meet the needs for patient care. Knowledge to maintain current and in-depth knowledge of sterile techniques. Ability to prepare operating room with surgical equipment, linens and supplies that will be needed during the surgery Ability to position patients for surgery and prep surgical area in compliance with facility policy Knowledge in consistently review of charts for completeness prior to and after surgical procedures Ability to holds self, physicians and other team members accountable for safe patient practices and environment Ability to remain flexible and adaptive; able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches Knowledge of surgery department policies and procedures. Knowledge of surgery department fire and safety regulations, electrical hazards, disaster plans and infection control policies. Knowledge and experience in the preoperative and postoperative care of the surgical patient. Knowledge of specialized equipment used in the surgery department including operating room. Knowledge of anesthetic agents and their usage and effect on the surgical patient. Evidence of continuing education in the field of surgical nursing. Ability to demonstrate and maintain department specific competencies including preoperative, intra-operative, post-anesthesia care and post-operative care. Accuracy and attention to detail in performing work. Fluency and proficiency with varying technology and software necessary in the workflow process of providing exceptional clinical care, ordering and documenting. Ability to assess multiple systems, provides intervention and education, and assesses the results of patient care. Ability to work and interact effectively with and provide direction to others. Ability to effectively handle stress. Experience Minimum 1-2 years of OR experience (Required) Previous experience in an Endoscopy setting (Preferred) Licenses or certifications: Current WI licensure required (Required) Graduate of accredited school of nursing (Required) Current BLS certification (Required) ACLS certification (Required within 6 months of hire) PALS certification (Required within 6 months of hire) We are a busy endoscopy and surgical center, focused on providing the highest quality of care to a wide range of patients.
