(experience required), Alaris IV Pumps, Pyxis Medication Dispensing Common Patient Diagnoses:
Medical:
CHF, COPD, respiratory failure, pneumonia, cellulitis, DVT, AKI, CKD (patients leave unit for hemodialysis), wounds, altered mental status, suicide precautions Surgical (Gen Surg): Gallbladders, appendectomies, colectomies, ostomies, TURPs Core Skills Needed:
Foley insertion/care, peripheral IVs, bladder scans, NG tubes, chest tubes, trachs, wound care, central line/PICC/midline management, and port access Drips:
Heparin and Insulin ( it is okay if you do not have insulin drip experience ) Cardiac:
Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms (strip check-off required) = Floating & Orientation Floating Policy:
Travelers float first. You may float within your scope of practice, most commonly to Observation and MedSurg 1 . Orientation:
New Employee Orientation (NEO) + 1 shift on the unit to learn the flow. May include a few hours of orientation to the common float areas (Obs/MedSurg 1). = Scheduling & Logistics Schedule Cycle:
