1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU (SICU) position at a Level II trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Details Work setting is an acute care hospital Surgical ICU (2E SICU) within a Level II trauma center and tertiary care center 16-bed unit with 2 additional procedural beds Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 for standard ICU patients, 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op cardiac, MTP, OPO), and 1:3 for med-surg/floor-status patients Patient population includes cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma, NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical patients requiring ICU-level care RNs are required to titrate drips including epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone Respiratory therapy (RT) is available in the ICU 24/7 and manages equipment including ventilators, BiPAP, and Vapotherm Intensivist is in-house 24/7 RNs are responsible for monitoring their own patients' telemetry and reading and documenting rhythm strips; GE monitors are used Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic) 12-hour variable day and night shifts (primarily days); shift times are 0700-1930 or 1900-0730 Every other weekend required (more if willing) Every other holiday required (more if willing) Floating may be required to the MICU if not needed in SICU, or to a patient observer role within the hospital if not needed in either ICU Requirements Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date) Current certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and
NIHSS TNCC
certification is preferred Minimum 2 years of RN experience in an ICU setting Experience with high-acuity surgical and cardiovascular ICU patient populations required Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and/or ECMO is preferred but not required 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant specialty experience Additional Information All nurses care for POD 1 heart patients; immediate post-op cardiac patients are cared for 1:1 by specifically trained nurses A charge nurse is present on every shift and typically does not take a patient assignment, though may based on census; a nursing house supervisor is available 24/7 One nursing assistant is available for the entire unit during day shift; NA coverage is not typical on night shift Orientation consists of one day of system onboarding/CBT completion followed by two orientation shifts on the unit; a skills checklist must be completed No specific scrub color required; clean and professional appearance expected Scheduling is based on unit needs; approved time-off requests will be accommodated as much as possible while meeting staffing requirements Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect pay eligibility
