This Department of Public Instruction School Nurse position in Sparta, Wisconsin offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on student health, safety and academic success in a tight-knit, welcoming community. In this role, you will serve as a key health resource for students, staff and families across assigned schools. A typical day may include assessing student health concerns, managing chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and severe allergies, administering medications, responding to injuries or emergencies, and maintaining accurate student health records. You will conduct or coordinate state-required screenings, support immunization compliance and help develop individual health plans for students with complex needs. Collaboration with teachers, counselors, special education teams and administrators is central to ensuring that health needs are integrated into each student's educational plan. You will also play an essential role in health promotion and disease prevention. This may include educating students on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, physical activity and mental wellness, as well as providing guidance to staff on infection control practices and emergency care protocols. Participation in crisis response planning, health policy development and staff training will help you support a safe and healthy learning environment for the entire school community. The schedule typically follows the academic calendar, providing a predictable, school-day routine that can support work-life balance. Caseload and daily duties can vary by building and season, but you can expect a mix of direct student care, documentation, family communication and collaboration with community healthcare providers.
