QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Registered Nursing License WV School Nurse Certification Required Valid First Aid/CPR Card
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Maintain health records of students Check immunization record for new students Provide information regarding immunization requirements to schools Assist with school based immunizations or health clinics Coordinate with principals on Policy 2422.7 regarding specialized health procedures and other school nursing activities Arrange for and/or provide training for personnel who will work with students who have special health care needs Maintain records for those who have received training for working with students with special health care needs Perform specialized health care procedures for students as schedule permits Set-up for all specialized health care procedures and provide appropriate supervision for those to whom specialized health care procedures have been delegated Initiate and update Individual Health Plans for Taylor County students Work in conjunction with 504 and IEP meetings to obtain and/or provide updates Provide general health appraisals and referrals of health concerns for students Follow-up of same students with health concerns Monitor communicable disease of students Counsel parents and students on good health practices Provide health consultant services to regular classroom teachers Provide occasional instruction to students on health related topics Conduct vision screening of students and in county on an as needed basis Assist with hearing screening when necessary Assist schools in keeping first aid supplies available Work cooperatively with other county health nurses Submit appropriate school, county, and state reports Attend in-service workshops provided by Nurse's Association and Department of Health to update school nursing skills Coordinate comprehensive school health program through Healthy Schools Adhere to policies and procedures set forth for schools nurses through the WVDE documents of Basic and Specialized Health Care Procedures Manual and School Nurse Mentorship Manual. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor Additional information concerning the above listed position can be obtained from the Superintendent's Office.
