The Position:
Our Registered Nurses are medical professionals that are responsible for the management and the wellbeing of the ophthalmic surgical patient. The Registered Nurse provides expert professional nursing care for the patient during the perioperative course. They plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients throughout the surgical intervention.
Responsibilities:
Works with members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient, throughout their surgical experience. Maintains a friendly, positive and professional attitude with all patients, physicians and staff. Assists in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Eye Center. Monitors the use of all supplies during patient stay. Assists with inventory control and stocks accordingly. Documents patient care appropriately. Maintains continuing education to meet state requirements and keep current with health care. Displays professionalism at work and in the community, as a representative of the Eye Center. Takes an active role on committees within the department. Identifies actual and potential risks to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risks and maximize safety. Performs charge nurse responsibilities as needed. Makes pre-op calls to ensure pre-op patient has all pertinent information for surgery including: NPO status, ride home, meds, etc. Prepares for arrival of patients to the surgery center by making sure that proper supplies and equipment are available. Reviews patient charts for health history and to assure that the necessary pre-operative evaluations have been completed. Makes sure Surgical Summary and consents are completed. Ensure H&P is accurate and up to date. Completes Medication Reconciliation on all patients, to include allergies. Admits and prepares patients for surgery/Laser Procedures at the Eye Center. Provides ongoing information to the patient and their caregiver to assure that they understand and feel as comfortable as possible. Does assessments of patient, starts IV and administers necessary medications as ordered Communicates with other health care team members to assure continuity of care in the Eye Center Receives patient into the recovery room after surgery. Assesses and evaluates the patient. Monitors the patient continuously during their recovery phase. Documents the status of the patients and administers care accordingly. Incorporates a sense of wellness by allowing the patient's family to be reunited with them as soon as feasible and encouraging self-care by the patient. Provides discharge instructions to the patient and their caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding throughout the giving of instructions. Sufficiently navigates NextGen through electronic medical records Provides follow up and assessment for the patient by calling the patients at home according to protocol. Prepares for emergency situations by knowing the Policies and Procedures of the ASC. Attends all Mandatory Staff Meetings Understands and implements all Eye Center Policies and Procedures.
Requirements:
Who You Are Graduation from an accredited nursing school. Current Wyoming license. BLS certification. Must complete BLS and ACLS certification within three months of hire. Experience in ophthalmology and outpatient surgery preferred. Knowledge of correct procedures in case of an emergency and locations of emergency call system.

  • Cheyenne Eye Clinic. This is a Part Time or Per Diem Position with an average of 15 hours per week. Compensation for this role is $36
  • 40 an hour based on experience/certification.
