Job Description

Overview Mat-Su Dermatology is seeking an experienced full-time Medical Office Clerk to join our Mohs surgery practice in Palmer, Alaska. This position is 5 days a week from 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM. Mat-Su Dermatology is a new practice in the Palmer-Wasilla, Alaska area. In addition to office clerk duties and scheduling this position will be highly focused on Insurance verifications and Pre-Authorizations. It is essential that the applicant have respect for colleagues, co-workers and patients. Must have some experience using Windows based computer programs , Electronic Medical Records and previous insurance verification experience. Essential Functions :
Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, as well as obtaining all eligibility and prior authorizations. Obtain prior authorizations for medical procedures, diagnostic tests, medications, or treatments. Accurately record all insurance and authorization interactions in EMR or billing software. Follow up with insurance carriers for status updates or additional information requests. Keep up to date with changes in payer requirements, coding policies, and authorization procedures. Notify providers and patients once authorization is approved or denied. Maintain authorization records and expiration dates for ongoing services. Collects referrals and patient documentation as appropriate prior to patient arrival. Pre-registers/registers patients with accurate patient demographic, financial data. May register patients using varying methods depending upon patient's needs Receives the office visit co-pays from the patients at the time of arrival. Collects patient balances, co-payment, co-insurance, or other payment types. Responds to customer's inquiries. Manages daily appointment schedules which may include reminder calls and calling all referrals. Develops and maintains office forms and procedures and assists with administrative tasks. Answers central telephone system and directs calls accordingly. Receives the public and answers questions, in person and by telephone; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens and others. Operates office machines and equipment as required. Duplicates and distributes materials as necessary. Composes, types, and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material. Assist with maintaining office supply inventory. Assists with departmental coverage as needed. Assist with opening and closes the front office lobby. Follows all Alaska state regulations related to clinic practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience:
Previous experience working with insurance eligibility and preauthorization's. Previous experience in an office environment, preferably within a healthcare setting. Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient interaction. Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and staff. Proficiency in administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing correspondence. Preferred experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with medical terminology and coding practices. Knowledge of medical insurance process and regulations is preferred. Must be able to manage conflict effectively and professionally. Excellent time management skills, with an emphasis on meeting time sensitive deadlines.

$23.00 - $27.00 per hour
