About the
Role:
At Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, creating a positive experience for patients begins long before they walk through our doors. As a Patient Access Coordinator, you will serve as an important first point of contact for patients, families, referring physicians, and care teams. In this role, you'll help guide patients through the early stages of their care journey by coordinating appointments, gathering important medical and insurance information, and ensuring patients have the resources they need before their visit. Your attention to detail, compassion, and ability to navigate complex situations will help create a seamless experience for patients during what can often be a stressful time. If you enjoy helping people, solving problems, and working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, this could be an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day. The starting annual salary for this position is $42,641 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package.
What You'll Do:
As a Patient Access Coordinator, you'll play a key role in helping patients successfully access the care they need by: Serving as a primary point of contact for patients, caregivers, and referring providers Answering incoming calls and responding to inquiries with professionalism and empathy Scheduling new and returning patient appointments with the most appropriate provider and specialty Coordinating pre-visit testing, procedures, and other services needed before appointments Gathering and reviewing medical records, imaging, pathology materials, and other clinical information to support patient visits Collecting and maintaining accurate patient demographic, insurance, and referral information Verifying insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations and referrals, and helping reduce claim denials Registering new patients and updating records for established patients Educating patients about financial responsibilities related to appointments, procedures, and hospital admissions Assisting patients with questions related to insurance coverage and financial clearance Collaborating closely with physicians, clinical teams, and disease-site programs to coordinate care Processing patient payments and verifying financial responsibility when appropriate Maintaining accurate documentation and records within established systems Supporting departmental goals, service improvements, and other special projects as needed

Experience in patient access, scheduling, healthcare administration, customer service, or a related field Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, providers, and colleagues The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy Experience working with insurance verification, referrals, authorizations, or registration processes Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Comfort discussing financial responsibilities with patients in a compassionate and professional manner Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Proficiency with electronic healthcare, scheduling, or registration systems A commitment to delivering outstanding service and support to patients The ability to remain calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environment Who Will Be Successful in

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience 1. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in patient registration, patient scheduling, or insurance verification; or 2. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and successful completion of a Patient Access Representative traineeship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park).
