Job Description

The Patient Registrar performs a variety of customer service and routine administrative tasks to provide for efficient and courteous operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(include, but not limited to the following) Greets all patients, families and visitors, verifies appointment information, provides directions and responds to inquiries as appropriate Interviews new patients to determine eligibility; adds to data base as appropriate to build patient health record Interviews patient and/or family member to determine primary visit purpose; routes Worker's Compensation patients to appropriate service area Verifies insurance information, eligibility and benefit coverage with parent/guardian to ensure understanding of requirements and/or constraints effecting treatment Reviews patient registration information for updates and/or changes to primary and secondary insurance coverage to ensure accuracy of billing Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives Daily, prepares charts for appointments, orders medical records, makes copies of material, creates labels/forms and includes proper patient data to provide for efficient patient flow Copies insurance card and attaches to registration documents to ensure accuracy for timely payment of claim Requests tribal enrollment verification to ensure coverage; refers to Eligibility Coordinator as needed Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor Performs other duties as assigned. One year of office experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, preferred High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
