Job Overview:
We are seeking a Bilingual (Spanish-English) Referral Coordinator to manage outgoing medical referrals in a busy clinical setting. This role is essential in helping patients access timely specialty care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in healthcare administration.
Responsibilities:
Review and process referral orders submitted by providers, ensuring all necessary information is included before submission Track the status of each referral and follow up with external specialists or facilities to confirm receipt and appointment scheduling Communicate with insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations when required Educate patients on the referral process, including what to expect from specialists and how to prepare for appointments Maintain a daily log of pending, scheduled, and completed referrals for reporting and quality assurance Serve as a liaison between primary care providers, specialists, and patients to ensure smooth transitions of care Collaborate with case managers and clinical teams to prioritize urgent referrals Ensure all referral documentation is accurately scanned/uploaded into the patient's electronic health record (EHR) Identify and resolve any delays in referral processing due to missing information, insurance issues, or provider availability Monitor and analyze referral trends to help improve referral processes and patient care access Maintain updated directories and contact lists for commonly referred specialists and facilities Participate in staff meetings and provide feedback on improving referral workflows
Qualifications:
Bilingual in Spanish and English - Required Experience in a medical office, urgent care, or outpatient clinic Knowledge of referral processes and medical terminology Familiarity with EMR systems and medical billing/coding Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a medical setting and contribute to the efficient operation of our facility.
