Job Description The Patient Access Representative serves as a critical first point of contact for patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED). This role is responsible for accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and financial intake while providing compassionate, efficient service in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment. The representative will be cross‑trained across multiple functional areas to support ED operations and ensure a seamless patient experience. Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Perform patient registration for the Emergency Department, ensuring accuracy and compliance with hospital policies
- Cross‑train and rotate across four key ED areas, including: Insurance verification pod Ambulance bay intake Main admissions Bedside registration in hallways and patient rooms
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility by contacting insurance carriers directly
- Collect and review required patient documentation and consent forms
- Accurately enter and update patient demographic information in the system
- Collect copays and other point‑of‑service payments in accordance with hospital financial policies
- Maintain professionalism, empathy, and discretion when interacting with patients, families, and clinical staff
- Collaborate closely with nursing, clinical, and administrative teams to support patient flow and timely care Work Environment

- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting
- Proficiency in insurance verification and eligibility processes, including HMO, PPO, Medicare, and Medi‑Cal
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience working in an Emergency Department or other high‑acuity clinical setting
- Hands‑on experience with EPIC (Electronic Health Record system)
