Health Services Assistant - Law Enforcement

See MOU for details San Bernardino County is currently recruiting for Health Services Assistants to assist professional healthcare staff with the implementation of health programs to adult population (Sheriff's) or juvenile/youth population (Probation) patients in a locked correctional facility . Duties include preparing clients and assisting professional staff with exams and procedures, collecting patients' specimens, teaching and encouraging development of good basic health habits and preventative care; assisting professional staff with care coordination, as needed; maintaining office supplies and equipment; providing assistance with scheduling appointments for health and dental services; and maintaining client charts. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future full-time vacancies in the Sheriff's and Probation departments as they occur. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel:

A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Background Investigation:

These positions may be assigned to locked detention facilities. Candidates are required to pass an extensive background investigation that includes interviews, fingerprinting, and a polygraph.

Education:

Must possess a high school diploma or GED, or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test.

Option A:

Three (3) months of full-time equivalent experience directly assisting professionals in providing health or social services. Your experience must include working in a medical or social services front or back office and performing intake interviews to determine eligibility for medical or social services.

Option B:

Successful completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) program (front and back office) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program resulting in a certificate. Option C:

Successful Completion of the Entry-Level Workplace Certificate from the SBC Career Path Builder Program. A copy of the certificate must be attached to the online application or submitted by the filing deadline. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to convey basic privacy practice laws, ability to complete enrollment paperwork, and communicate basic health information and education; excellent interpersonal/customer service skills; basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint); and knowledge of community resources. The ideal candidate will also have experience in working with the community, especially with pregnant/breastfeeding women and/or substance abuse disorders. English/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desired. For consideration of bilingual assessments, applicants must indicate bilingual ability on the application. Employees may receive additional compensation for utilizing such skills when allocated to a bilingual position, as approved by the department. Bilingual testing may be required.
