Front Desk Receptionist & Ophthalmic Technician (Part-Time to Full-Time)

Retina Specialists of Connecticut Retina Specialists of Connecticut is a growing, fast-paced retina practice committed to exceptional patient care and a welcoming environment. We are seeking a motivated team member to join our office: a Front Desk Receptionist/Ophthalmic Technician . This position is a part-time to full-time position with opportunity for growth as the practice expands. This is a unique hybrid role combining front office and clinical experience. You'll interact directly with patients, help triage calls and urgent visits, and learn how symptoms translate into diagnoses and treatment decisions. You will also assist with basic workups and imaging (OCT, fundus photos) while working closely with a physician. This position provides meaningful, real-world exposure to medicine beyond shadowing and is ideal for building a strong application for medical, PA, or nursing school. Strong performers may be eligible for a letter of recommendation. Front Desk Coordinator - Key Responsibilities Warmly greet patients and create a positive first impression Answer incoming calls and assist patients with scheduling and general inquiries Check patients in and out efficiently and accurately Make reminder calls and manage daily appointment flow Collect co-pays, patient balances, and verify insurance information Support the physician and clinical team with smooth front-office operations Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English. Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish, English/Portugues), a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with providers, co-workers, and patients of all ages, and from across a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to work as an integral team member under limited supervision, in a fast-paced, complex environment. Ability to show tolerance and sensitivity in stressful situations and safeguard confidential information in accordance with established policies and HIPAA regulations.
Ideal Candidate:
Friendly, organized, detail-oriented, comfortable multitasking, and able to maintain professionalism in a busy medical environment. Ophthalmic Technician - Key Responsibilities Obtain medical histories and relevant patient information Prepare patients for their visit with the physician Perform diagnostic imaging, including retinal photography and other ophthalmic tests Assist with maintaining clean, organized exam rooms and equipment Complete medical chart documentation accurately and promptly Respond to patient communications through the EMR system
Ideal Candidate:
Compassionate, eager to learn, comfortable with technology, and able to work efficiently in a clinical setting. Experience in ophthalmology or retina is a plus but not required as training will be provided. Minimum Education and Experience Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree in healthcare discipline preferred. No medical experience can be entertained for highly qualified and motivated applicants. Demonstrated experience and successive growth and accomplishments in patient care operations environment. On the job training will be provided.
