Duties Verify patient insurance coverage by contacting insurance companies and reviewing policies to ensure eligibility and benefits. Collect and update accurate insurance information, including policy numbers, group numbers, and authorization details. Collaborate with medical office staff to confirm patient appointments and coordinate pre-authorizations when necessary. Maintain thorough records of insurance verification activities while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Scan, upload, index, and route identification, insurance cards, referrals, authorizations, forms, and outside records to the correct location in the EMR. Assist patients with understanding their insurance benefits related to procedures, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes, including ICD-9 and ICD-10. Support the medical office by managing medical records related to insurance claims and billing processes. Stay informed about managed care policies and changes in insurance requirements that impact verification procedures. Qualifications Prior experience working in a medical or dental office setting is highly preferred, especially with insurance verification tasks. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (including

CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10

), and medical records management. Familiarity with managed care plans, HIPAA compliance standards, and insurance verification processes. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, providers, and insurance representatives. Office experience demonstrating proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems or similar software tools. Knowledge of medical billing procedures and familiarity with medical coding practices is a plus. Ability to multitask efficiently in a busy healthcare environment while maintaining attention to detail.
