Required:
1. High School Diploma, HiSET, or
G.E.D. 2.
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate. 3. Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant. 4. Prior health care experience in a clinical setting. 5.
One of the following:
(1) 48 credit hours post-secondary education, or (2) associate's degree or higher, or (3) Para educator certification from Board of Educational Examiners, or (4) combined score of 150 or higher on the COMPASS test, or (5) a passing score on the AcuPlacer test.
Preferred Experience and Education:
1. Computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office tools and district software programs. 2. Experience working in pediatrics or public health.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
1. Ability to carry out duties cooperatively with others. 2. Oral and written communication skills. 3. Skills in oral and written communications. 4. Ability to maintain confidentiality with students, staff and parents. 5. Successful completion of state-approved medication administration course (can be done upon hire)
BASIC FUNCTION
Provide clerical and patient care support to students and staff, under the direction of the school nurse. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the health services department and building assignment. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide First Aid within limits outlined by the health office guidelines and in accordance with skills taught in approved First Aid and CPR courses. 2. Administer medications and accurately record administrations, according to health office guidelines. 3. Contact school nurse when major illnesses or serious injuries of students or school personnel occur. 4. Contact parents of ill or injured students in accordance with established health office guidelines and, if necessary, prepare student to be transported. 5. Communicate with appropriate school personnel regarding disposition of students sent to the health office. 6. Record health office visits, student symptoms and the disposition of students sent to the health office. 7. Assist the school nurse in recording immunization needs of students. 8. Assist with health screening activities. 9. Maintain and file health office records. 10. Maintain a clean and organized health office environment. 11. Assist with toileting and personal hygiene needs of students. 12. Perform medical procedures and tasks delegated by the school nurse. 13. Assist when emergencies arise.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(for every DMPS position): Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
