Job Description

Medical Support Assistance (Office Automation) Duties
  • Enters, manipulates and retrieves information and data from automated systems as appropriate to the area assigned.
  • Document patient information in medical records.
  • Complete request forms of individual patient orders for special blood work, x-rays, radiation therapy, diets, clinic appointments, respiratory and ventilator care, consults and other requests as may be deemed necessary.
  • Read and interpret the referring consults, doctors' notes and/or drug treatment protocol in order to select and schedule the appropriate tests.
  • Manipulating and retrieving information and data from various automated medical systems (such as the Composite Health Care System, Electronic Health Record).
  • Receive all patients and make a determination as to disposition (proceed to the laboratory, retrieve additional information, proceed to the doctor's office, be seated in the waiting area, etc.) based upon an established algorithm.
  • Completes order entries involving patient activities, diets, tests and medications.
  • Responsible for the clerical duties innt in the admission and discharge of patients. Requirements Conditions of employment

  • This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
Qualifications
Who May :
US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes receiving patients and/or visitors in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; maintaining patient records; and utilizing automated health care systems and/or office automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR
Education:
Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR
Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required:
This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Education
