Referral Specialist -
Diagnostic Imaging Services Schedule:
Full-Time | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30
PM Location:
Diagnostic Imaging Services, Meritus Health Position Summary Under the general direction of the Practice Supervisor/Manager, the Referral Specialist serves as a key resource for coordinating authorized patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic procedures, and surgical services. This role ensures timely access to care by securing necessary pre-authorizations and guiding patients to appropriate providers based on insurance requirements. In some units, the Referral Specialist also verifies insurance coverage and benefits to support accurate billing and payment. Key Responsibilities Arrange and schedule patient referrals in alignment with insurance guidelines and clinical needs Obtain pre-authorization approvals for referrals, procedures, and surgeries Refer patients to authorized providers based on insurance plan requirements Verify insurance coverage, benefits, deductibles, and referral criteria as needed Communicate with insurance companies to secure approvals and ensure proper payment Maintain accurate documentation and follow up on pending authorizations Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to support seamless care coordination Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to patient-centered service Minimum Qualifications Education High school diploma required; completion of commercial or business coursework preferred Experience Previous experience as a referral specialist preferred Licensure/Certification BLS (CPR) certification preferred, in compliance with Meritus Health policy Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively Familiarity with insurance processes and patient scheduling systems preferred Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and compassionate service Caring for Our Team We are committed to supporting the well-being and professional development of our team members through a comprehensive benefits package, which includes: Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Coverage begins on the first of the month following your hire date .
