Job Description
We are looking for a Patient Access Specialist to support patient intake and registration activities for a hospital setting in Bangor, Maine. This Long-term Contract position plays an important role in creating an efficient, compassionate arrival experience while ensuring documentation, insurance details, and compliance steps are handled accurately. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with patients, providers, and internal teams to maintain organized account setup and help support timely billing and service delivery.
Responsibilities:
Manage patient admissions and registration tasks by creating and updating accounts with accurate identifiers, demographic details, and insurance information.
Review physician orders, confirm required documentation, and perform compliance and medical necessity checks before services are scheduled or delivered.
Conduct pre-registration activities through inbound and outbound communication to gather missing information, discuss financial responsibility, and support point-of-service payment collection.
Explain consent paperwork and patient-facing forms to patients, guarantors, or legal guardians, secure required signatures, and distribute applicable educational materials.
Verify coverage using eligibility tools, assign the correct plan information, and record benefits accurately to support clean claims and billing workflows.
Provide clear instructions to patients regarding next steps, appointment preparation, and required documentation while delivering courteous, compassionate service.
Track assigned point-of-service performance goals and contribute to collection efforts for current balances, overdue amounts, and available payment arrangements.
Use audit and reporting resources to identify account issues, make corrections, and help ensure records, forms, and related documentation meet quality and timeliness standards.
