Variable Summary:
The Physical Rehabilitation Patient Care Aide is responsible for assisting staff therapists/assistants in carrying out direct and supportive patient care activities. The Patient Care Aide works under the direct supervision of the therapist/assistant in carrying out patient care activities as delegated by the therapist/assistant. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Organizational proprietary information, and must handle and protect the information in accordance with hospital and system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of the Hospital.
Responsibilities:
Assists the therapist/assistant with treatments as requested. Assists the therapist/assistant with patient treatments such as transfers, gait training, therapeutic exercise, etc Assists the therapist/assistant with obtaining patient equipment or assistive devices Demonstrates a caring and helpful attitude. Performs selected patient care activities under the supervision of the therapist/assistant Application of CPM machines Application of heat and ice including cryocuffs Performance of basic patient transfers and supervised/minimal assist ambulation with assistive devices as needed Performance of routine range of motion exercise programs Documentation of patient care activities Patient Care Collaboration Seeks assistance from the supervising therapist/assistant in prioritizing multiple requests. Routinely checks with the nurse caring for the patient before completing assigned patient care activities. Reports results of selected patient care activities to the therapist/assistant Notifies the therapist/assistant of any change in patient condition Communicates any patient/family concerns to the therapist/assistant Promotes safety for patients, staff and visitors. Maintains a safe treatment environment utilizing principles of infection control, safety and safe operation of equipment. Demonstrates safe patient and equipment handling techniques. Identifies and communicates potential quality concerns to department manager. Assists with general department support functions as requested Enters patient charges into the billing system. Answers telephone takes messages; directs calls appropriately. Notifies therapy staff by pager of new orders. Completes filing, photocopying, faxing and typing. Collects, sorts and distributes mail. Coordinates equipment repair and replacement. Accepts responsibility for further professional development. Attends staff meetings (takes responsibility to review minutes when unable to attend). Participates in continuing education programs; attends pertinent inservices and mandatory programs.
