Job Description

Provides an intermediate level of customer service and clerical support to patients within inpatient or outpatient settings. May assist adjacent work units. Guides entry-level positions and suggests workflow changes and improvements. Staff working on the pediatric medical specialties patient access team would serve as the backbone of access operations across clinics, ensuring consistent, timely, and expert management of provider templates, proactive patient rescheduling, and strategic use of waitlists and recall lists to drive fill rates and improve access. The person in this role will serve on the pediatric medical specialties patient access team and will primarily perform critical patient access functions, including template editing, patient reschedules, waitlist and recall list management, no-show management, in addition to other duties assigned. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations (HIPPA). Accurately verify patient information, including demographic details, medical history, and insurance coverage as needed. Provide customer service to patients by facilitating business processes including appointment scheduling, check-in and check-out, pre-arrival and telephone triage as needed. Serve as the point of contact between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff. Communicate appointment changes, test results, or instructions to patients clearly and promptly as needed. Assist healthcare providers with administrative tasks such as preparing patient files, documents, and arranging follow-up services as needed. May collect cash and credit card payments from patients, determine patient pay portion and provide receipt of payment as needed. Work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient flow and high-quality patient care. Other duties as assigned Supervision Received Direct supervision is received from the Department Supervisor Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday days and eligible for hybrid work status. Three or more years of customer service experience within a medical environment. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
