Medical Office Assistant / HIS Clerk

Family Health Care is seeking an on-call Medical Office Assistant / HIS Clerk at our clinic in Big Rapids.

Description:

The Medical Office Assistant is a front desk employee responsible for checking in patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones, etc. The Health Information Services (HIS) Clerk is an entry-level position in the medical records department. This position handles confidential patient records, ensuring they are maintained in an organized manner and under strict security protocols.

Primary Responsibilities:

Follow HIPAA to ensure confidentiality and access to patient health information. Answer incoming phone calls and respond to medical records requests from patients. Accurately performs all required procedures for processing release of information requests. Performs other duties deemed necessary and assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to pay attention to detail. Experience in medical records management is preferred but not required. Working knowledge of patient records systems is preferred. Working knowledge of health care terminology is preferred Must have typing and computer skills. Good interpersonal communication skills to work with patients, providers, and coworkers.

Minimum Requirements:

High School Graduate or GED equivalent Previous medical records experience preferred but not required. Basic office skills, including organization and communication. Family Health Care is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
