Job Description
Answers the switchboard; uses directories and computer terminals (Meditech) in order to provide locations, appropriate telephone numbers, hospital services and other information. Monitor lobbies for physical condition to ensure that appropriate environment is maintained for patients and visitors. Respond to patients needs requests and concerns as appropriate; communicates directly with manager regarding specific problems or adverse trends to ensure quality of services. Provides information on location of patients and performs a variety of duties appropriate to a centrally located reception area, such as accepting flowers, packages and registered mail; obtaining wheelchairs for patients and generating computer print outs for clergy. Greets and directs patients, visitors and salespeople to appropriate hospital departments. Assist patients with registration sign-in utilizing instant message and registration. Assist Patient Access with daily charts, STATS and patient wait times. Assists with the placement and scheduling of hospital volunteers in the Patient Access Department. Assists with the daily functions of hospital volunteers in the Patient Access Department. Maintains lost and found for the hospital. Assists specialty clinic with confirmation calls, checking in patients, creating charts, etc. Identifies health and safety concerns and unsafe work practices within the workplace. Is involved in developing safe work practices and is held accountable for the day to day efforts of ensuring a safe workplace by following safe work practices. Maintains organized inventory of supplies and equipment for necessary efficient operations of Patient Access Services. Prioritizes and completes assignments in an organized and efficient manner to complete tasks within a scheduled shift. Completes in a timely manner all clerical duties related to Admissions/Transfers/Discharges. Completes reports and other duties as assigned by the Patient Access Manager for this position. Uses idle time productively and seeks out work when other tasks are complete. Assists Specialty Clinic in confirmation calls, checking in patients, creates charts and any other tasks Specialty Clinic needs assistance with. Checks in all patients and notifies registrar. Maintains patient order and seeks help if volumes are high. Other duties as assigned. BLS required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. P revious hospital or medical office reception with multi-line phone experience preferred. Previous customer service experience required.
