Patient Service Representative Hollen Family Medicine Grand Rapids, MI Job Details Full-time $15.00 - $20.25 an hour 20 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Paid sick time Qualifications Computer operation OSHA Filing High school diploma or GED Medical administrative support Grammar Experience Medical terminology Full Job Description Serves patients by greeting and assisting them, scheduling appointments, maintaining records and accounts, answering phone calls, faxing correspondence, etc. A general Patient Service Specialist job description will include, but not limited to: Administrative Duties (may include but not limited to): Reports to Office Manager Uses computer applications Answers and makes telephone calls Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries. Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, reminding provider of service delays. Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties, answering patients' questions, maintaining the reception area. Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records. Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information. Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims. Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information. Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Work Environment- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands- This is largely a sedentary role, however, some filing and inventory management is required. This would require the ability to move files or inventory, open filing cabinets, and bend, twist or stand as necessary. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach, etc. when operating office equipment
Knowledge:
Patient Service Specialist must have a knowledge of: Healthcare field and medical specialty Medical terminology Grammar, spelling, and punctuation Knowledge of EHR (preferably EPIC)
Skills:
Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette Ability to maintain effective communication and organization to ensure timely patient flow Basic computer skills and office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) Ability to multitask and maintain professionalism
Education:
High school diploma, some college preferred
