Job Description

Position Summary The Patient Account Specialist (Support) provides financial and administrative support for patient account operations within a university-based clinical services setting. This position is responsible for managing patient billing activities, supporting insurance claims processing, resolving account discrepancies, and ensuring accurate and timely revenue cycle workflows across multiple interdisciplinary clinic services. The role also supports students, faculty, and staff clinicians by maintaining accurate financial records and delivering high-quality customer service to patients and third-party payers. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain patient accounts across university clinic service lines Process insurance claims, corrections, denials, and re-submissions Review Explanation of Benefits and resolve billing discrepancies Assist patients with billing questions, statements, and payment arrangements Verify insurance eligibility and update patient demographic/coverage information Support revenue cycle workflows including charge entry, payment posting, and account reconciliation Coordinate with clinical, administrative, and billing teams to resolve account issues Ensure compliance with
HIPAA, FERPA
(as applicable), and institutional billing policies Document all account activity accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) or practice management system Assist with reporting and audit preparation as needed Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred Experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or healthcare administration preferred 2-4 years of experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or healthcare revenue cycle support Knowledge of insurance billing practices, claims processing, and EOB interpretation Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in an academic, team-based clinical environment Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff in a professional manner Preferred Skills Experience in a university clinic, teaching hospital, or multi-disciplinary healthcare setting Understanding of
CPT/ICD-10
coding structures (preferred but not required) Experience working with students, trainees, or academic faculty environments Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment
Pay:
$48,617.45 - $58,550.05 per year
