The Patient Account Service Representative (PASER) politely and efficiently greets patients and visitors, taking phone messages, using the computer system as it relates to registration, insurance and/or financial aspects of the patients visit, as well as scheduling appointments. This individual is responsible for verifying/pre-certifying insurance benefits and making financial arrangements with patients or guarantors prior to services being provided. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Will serve as back up to the receptionist.Performance Exceptions:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of orientation to your job. Demonstrate aptitude with equipment including, but not limited to, Multi-line phone system, Windows based computers, Epic software, Healthstream, printers, fax, copier, scanner, calculator, credit card machine. Demonstrate aptitude with proper telephone etiquette and communications skills. Must be able to enter complete detailed messages into Epic and direct messages to the appropriate employee. Identify messages which need prompt attention versus those messages that can be entered into Epic for a return phone call. Demonstrate aptitude with scheduling appointments and maintaining provider/ancillary schedules. Demonstrate aptitude with collections, registration of patient information, and precertification processes. Demonstrate aptitude with numbering and classifying medical records to be scanned into Epic. Process medical records request and release of information as applicable by law. Demonstrate aptitude with efficiency and teamwork. When your tasks are complete, assist coworkers or ask manager for additional tasks. Demonstrate aptitude and desire to cross train for other positions within the clinic. Cross trained employees enables our department to provide quality, efficient, effective care to our patients.Qualifications:
Education/Skills High school diploma or equivalent required. Computer knowledge required.Work Experience:
Experience in medical insurance preferred.Mental Demands:
Oral and written communication skills are important to relate effectively to supervisors, hospital personnel, patients, and other third parties. The individual must have basic math skills in order to perform the calculations for insurance analysis and proration.
