Non-Exempt Summary of Position Certified Medical Assistants are important members of the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) Care Teams. Medical Assistants are responsible for delivering excellent, high-touch, primary care, and coordinating a patient centered care experience. The Medical Assistant role requires high levels of flexibility, energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving. Medical Assistants will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room RCCHC patients. S/he will be expected to assist in assessing patient's health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments. The Certified Medical Assistant must be able to maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of RCCHC personnel and patients. A Patient Access Center (PAC) in a Community Health Center is a centralized team that manages patient entry points into care.
It typically handles:
Scheduling appointments across all clinic sites Patient inquiries and call management Registration and demographic updates Insurance verification and eligibility Care coordination and routing patients to appropriate services The goal of a PAC is to improve access, streamline operations, and create a consistent patient experience , while allowing clinical staff at the sites to focus more on direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications 1+ years in Medical Assistant role Excellent organizational, leadership, verbal and written communication skills Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks and priorities in order to meet deadlines
Education :
High school diploma/GED required
Experience :
Experience in primary care providing care for all patient populations preferred Certification(s)/
Licensure :
Medical Assistant credential, certification or registration required BLS certification required
Knowledge:
Knowledge and thorough understanding of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's) in regard to the Federal 330 Public Health Service Act Knowledge of thorough understanding of the 340B program Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
Skills:
Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion. Skill in analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the medical and administrative staff, patients and the community. Skill in planning, organizing, and prioritizing work; delegating and achieving goals and objectives. Skill in exercising judgment and discretion in developing, interpreting, and implementing departmental policies and procedures. Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
Abilities:
Ability to plan, organize, and integrate priorities and deadlines. Ability to identify, analyze, and interpret complex data and, resolve operational problems. Ability to evaluate and make recommendations for continuous quality improvement. Ability to evaluate and make recommendations for continuous risk assessment. Ability to anticipate and react calmly in emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing. Ability to competently use Microsoft Office Essential Functions Electronic health record proficiency Administration of medication by injection Phlebotomy competency Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit Prepares patient for examination by performing preliminary physician test; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary Demonstrates problem-solving skills, accountability, and a flexible, positive attitude. Accurately execute technical procedure when ordered such as EKG's, drawing blood, obtaining and preparing laboratory specimens Maintain proper storage and handling of equipment, supplies, and medications Maintain a clean and orderly clinical working atmosphere; adequately prepare exam rooms and properly equip laboratory Work with patients and family in giving accurate, understandable instructions in diet, special care procedures, medication, patient education Participate as an active member of the RCCHC team Maintain compliance with workflows, policies and procedures as well as other activities to support Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care and accreditation Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
