Job Description
Overview The Patient Care Advocate serves as a communication liaison between clients, their pets, and the veterinary medical team. This role is responsible for timely updates, triage support, client follow-ups, appointment coordination, and front desk assistance. The Patient Care Advocate plays a key role in maintaining a smooth client experience and ensuring the medical team is informed and supported. Responsibilities Communicate with clients regarding hospitalized patients, including regular updates. Send post-operative updates via phone or text, including photos when appropriate. Return client calls on behalf of veterinarians and technicians. Call clients with routine or negative lab results, using appropriate medical terminology in a client-friendly way. Conduct follow-up calls for recently hospitalized or surgical patients. Call in prescriptions to local pharmacies as directed, using accurate drug names and dosages. Schedule urgent and emergency appointments with appropriate doctors based on availability. Triage client concerns and patient symptoms over the phone or in person, and escalate as appropriate. Monitor waiting area and check in with clients waiting to be seen. Remind medical staff of waiting appointments or clients needing attention. Follow up with clients who have uncollected medications. Fully trained to perform receptionist duties; provide front desk coverage as needed. Support client communication and care coordination across departments. Understand and appropriately use medical and veterinary terminology in client communication and documentation. Perform other duties as assigned.
