Job Summary Responsible for obtaining all demographic and insurance information; to ensure accurate and timely medical record completion in accordance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations (JC) Department of Health (DOH) standards and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. This position is responsible for ensuring the effective management of all incoming referrals, authorizations, Pre-Registration and Scheduling and the transition of inquiries to the appropriate service lines. Responsible for completing/distributing paperwork, entering pertinent patient information into Hospital Information System, verifying insurance eligibility, identifying out of pocket cost, and communicating with staff and patients on point of cash requirements on/before service date. Essential Functions Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to their specific department/area of responsibility. Consistently utilizes precautions and follows appropriate procedures to enhance patient/staff safety in their daily operations. Identifies and reports any potentially dangerous situations to their manager which could cause medical error/patient or staff harm. Immediately takes action, where appropriate, to minimize the risk of injury. Where appropriate to staff member's responsibilities, reports errors, when these occur, to their supervisor and on an occurrence report. Participates, when appropriate, in Root Cause Analyses and/or other efforts to reduce risk of medical error/patient or staff harm. Participates in performance/customer service improvement; actively assists in improving performance based on results obtained from customer satisfaction/PI activities. Recognizes systems approach to PI. Where appropriate, participates in Performance Improvement activities including team membership. Identifies processes that need improvement. Maintain a positive, helpful attitude to patients, providers and co-workers. Seek to establish a working relationship with a positive attitude that enhances open communication. Demonstrate an awareness of and commitment to the common goal of providing excellent patient experience. Participate in and support team meetings and activities Interact with patients, visitors, employees, supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, and providers in a courteous and professional manner. Answer telephone in a prompt and courteous manner, appropriately utilizing skills and features of the telephone system. Facilitate timely follow-up for all care team members. Qualifications High School or GED Required AA or AS Preferred Three (3) years of patient registration or patient accounting experience required. Experience must have included frequent customer interaction with a broad and diverse community. Prior experience must demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, and to prioritize and multi-task with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Required Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus. Prior experience working with Windows-based software. Ability to learn new processes, procedures, and software programs quickly. In the absence of an Associate degree, a combination of either health care finance or healthcare access certification (CHAA) or specific experience can be substituted.
