SCOPE OF POSITION OSU

Harding Hospital/East Hospital-Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults in central Ohio. We offer more treatment options and a more experienced and diversified staff than any other psychiatric or behavioral healthcare provider in the area. All of our psychiatric emergency, behavioral health urgent care, inpatient, outpatient, IOP, and partial hospitalization services include a comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis from a qualified clinician and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. We offer specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing psychiatric emergency & crisis, need for behavioral health urgent care, mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma

• and stress-related disorders, and sexual dysfunction.

We offer specialty programs in women's behavioral health, addictions, trauma, adolescent school-based, and neurocognitive disorders. Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive addiction services for adults in central Ohio, offering specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing a substance use disorder. We offer traumatic brain injury specific treatment, the latest Medicated Assisted Treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders. Talbot offers detox, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and many outpatient and continuing care groups. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all treatment team members. The BHUC nurse serves as a critical part of our clinical team. OSU Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) provides short‑term outpatient services that bridge gaps in mental health and substance use treatment. Operated by OSUWMC and Ohio State's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, BHUC offers adults immediate support for mental health or substance use concerns through walk‑in or scheduled visits—either in person or via telehealth. It serves as an alternative to the Emergency Department for routine or urgent behavioral health needs and provides rapid‑access follow‑up appointments within seven days of psychiatric inpatient or ED discharge. BHUC delivers short‑term psychotherapy, psychiatric medication evaluation and management, and limited case management for patients at risk of behavioral health decompensation or substance use escalation. Care is available for up to two months and is not intended as long‑term treatment. Locations BHUC

• Talbot 2nd Floor, Talbot Hall, 1441 Phale D. Hale Drive, Columbus, OH 43203 Primary focus: substance use treatment with mental health support. Patients with mental health concerns alone may also be seen here. BHUC
• Powell (Opening August 2026) Outpatient Care Powell, 7171 Sawmill Parkway, Powell, OH 43065 Focus under development; will align with the existing BHUC programs.

In January 2026, BHUC expanded to a second location on the first floor of Talbot Hall at OSU East Hospital, with a third site planned at OSU Outpatient Care Powell in August 2026. Together, the three locations operate under a unified framework with differentiated focuses on mental health and substance use treatment. This structure expands access, reduces fragmentation, and better supports patients with complex behavioral health needs. All BHUC locations focus on stabilizing immediate concerns, connecting patients to long term treatment resources both within and outside OSUWMC. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of advanced practice providers, nurses, psychiatrists, addiction medicine physicians, independently licensed behavioral health therapists, and certified peer supporters. Services—offered in person or virtually—include medication management, brief psychotherapy, and other short-term interventions. BHUC provides care for up to two months and is not intended for long term treatment.

POSITION SUMMARY

The BHUC-Talbot Nurse is responsible to be the primary responder to manage the triage/intake of patients in the BHUC-Talbot walk-in clinic, as well as incoming BHUC-Talbot clinic phone calls. The BHUC-Talbot nurse, after triage or phone call, will determine if patient is clinically appropriate for BHUC-Talbot or needs higher level of care (i.e., Emergency Department level of care), and then assists and/or directs patient to that level of care. The BHUC-Talbot Nurse conducts a focused triage assessment, noting signs that may indicate mental health, substance use, or both and prioritizing the patient's immediate safety and medical needs. In addition to providing brief mental health and substance use disorder triage to walk-in patients and managing incoming clinic phone calls, the BHUC-Talbot nurse will also be responsible for obtaining patient vitals, administer breathalyzer (when indicated), provide comfort care for BHUC-Talbot patients experiencing withdrawal, assist with resolving issues with prescriptions and pharmacies, returning phone messages the same day they are received, administering Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and long-acting injectable MAT or psychiatric medications when prescribed by BHUC physicians/advanced practice providers, assist with obtaining and/or forwarding lab results, urine drug screens, provide education to patients regarding medications and side effects as needed, respond to messages sent by patients in MyChart, and other patient needs as requested by clinic staff. The BHUC-Talbot nurse acts as the "front door" to the BHUC-Talbot clinic and helps coordinate patient care.

Minimum 2 years experience as a psychiatric RN is required, BSN preferred
