Job Description

The Outpatient Scheduling Representative is responsible for scheduling all routine and non-routine medical services with various healthcare providers and departments. This includes entering the appropriate diagnostic testing, demographics, and insurance information into the electronic medical record to facilitate patient care and billing integrity. Outpatient Scheduling Representatives help to ensure that patients flow through the scheduling and registration systems as quickly and efficiently as possible while also ensuring that all fiscal and clinical procedures are followed in a constant manner. Provides a person-centered experience and supports a positive workplace by maintaining an upbeat and professional work environment while completing all assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Job Requirements Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
o Filing and record keeping practices. o HIPAA regulations and requirements; ability to apply regulations and policies as required to ensure proper handling of confidential patient records and to explain the law and our privacy policy to patients. o Maintain all records in good order and to keep appropriate documentation of access to medical records. o Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail, ability to set priorities and maintain an organized work environment. o Work in a self-directed manner to accomplish assigned tasks in accordance with CMH policies and procedures. o Follow directions and to work quickly and efficiently in an environment that includes varying workloads and interruptions. Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and providers. o Be proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated keyboarding and data entry skills and ability to enter data quickly and accurately. o Be professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and providers and to maintain composure in stressful circumstances. o Strong Telephone and verbal skills, along with active listening (confirming & clarifying information). Ability to operate telephone system and to answer and handle a high volume of calls in a timely and professional manner. o Ability to follow established protocols, key understanding of urgent/emergent guidelines and STAT scenarios. License/Certification N/A Education and/or Experience One (1) year of clerical/medical office experience preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Must be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds). Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment. Must be tolerant of Formalin/fixative solutions. Must be able to multi-task while working under stressful conditions
