  • Friday, day off being Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday Your role with us As a referral specialist in the Neurology Clinic at Salem Health, you support patient access to care by coordinating referrals, authorizations, scheduling, and front‑office operations.
You serve as a primary point of contact for patients, providers, insurance carriers, and external referral partners while ensuring accurate documentation, compliance with payer requirements, and efficient clinic workflows in a fast‑paced specialty setting. What you'll do Process incoming and outgoing referrals, including prior authorizations and renewals. Document referrals, authorizations, diagnoses, and ICD‑10 codes accurately in Epic. Coordinate outgoing referrals by transmitting required medical records and documentation. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; communicate with payers and patients to resolve issues. Expedite urgent referrals in coordination with specialty offices and insurance carriers. Manage Epic work queues, In‑Basket messages, and RightFax referrals within established timeframes. Schedule patients and perform registration, check‑in, check‑out, and payment collection. Respond to provider, patient, and referral source inquiries professionally and timely. Required qualifications One year of medical office experience in an admitting office, clinic, physician or insurance office performing patient registration and insurance verification. Exceptional computer skills and the ability to quickly master multiple computer programs. Knowledge of business and office machines such as: fax, telephone, computer/printer, copier; reception skills. Additional information Two years of referrals experience is highly preferred. Previous EPIC Prelude and Cadence experience a plus. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to work in a very busy, multidisciplinary setting. Must have good clerical skills, including typing (60 wpm) and excellent telephone etiquette and good organizational and record-keeping skills. Must have the ability to hold information in confidence.
