Job Summary:
Under immediate supervision of the Lead patient Access Clerk performs a variety of registration, admission, public relations, financial and medical service functions. Performs interviews for the purpose of initiating accounts. Evaluates information to determine appropriate flow of patient type, hospital service code, diagnosis, tests and procedures needed, medical necessity and priority. Determines appropriate documentation and form requirements based on medical and financial indicators. Secures information to assure rapid reimbursement. Initiates collection activity by requesting co-payments, deposits and anticipated balance due. Provides education to patients related to medical necessity requirements. Receives and documents acceptance of cash, checks, credit card payments as well as patient valuables. Acts as a liaison between the patient, visitors and others and of treatment authorization. Provides information and answers questions about consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, acceptance of financial responsibility, release of records, patient rights and responsibilities and advanced directives. Maintains required documentation including patient medical records, logs and schedules, written and electronic. Identifies, responds and announces all code phone and wall alarm activation.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. Typing 40+ wpm. Proficient computer skills. Medical terminology strongly preferred. Experience in medical setting preferred.
