UPMC Hamot Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Join the Heart & Vascular Institute at UPMC Hamot , a Cardiology practice that is part of a Certified Comprehensive Cardiac Center , recognized by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association for excellence in cardiovascular care. We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Office Assistant I to support the daily operations of our busy cardiology practice. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment and provide exceptional service to patients, providers, and clinical staff.
Preferred Experience:
One year of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred Appointment scheduling experience Medical records management, including obtaining and scanning records Patient registration experience Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system. Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient's appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers. Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions. Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials. Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments. Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information. Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed. Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing. Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing. Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks. High school diploma or GED is required. 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Word processing and computer experience preferred.
