This position plays a vital role in preparing patients for their surgical experience by verifying insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations, and helping patients understand their financial responsibility before their procedure. Position Summary The Insurance Verification & Pre-Registration Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, obtaining required authorizations, completing patient pre-registration, and communicating estimated patient financial responsibility prior to the date of service. This position works closely with patients, physician offices, insurance companies, and Surgery Center staff to ensure efficient and positive patient experience. Essential Responsibilities Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage for scheduled surgical procedures. Obtain prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications as required by insurance plans. Review insurance benefits to determine deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and estimated patient responsibility. Contact patients to complete pre-registration and verify demographic and insurance information. Communicate estimated out-of-pocket costs and payment expectations in a courteous and compassionate manner. Document insurance verification and authorization information accurately in the electronic medical record and practice management system. Coordinate with physician offices and insurance carriers to resolve coverage issues prior to surgery. Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients with registration and insurance-related questions. Provide support to other Business Office functions as needed, including registration, scheduling, and medical records. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all organizational policies regarding confidentiality. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED. At least one year of experience in a medical office, ambulatory surgery center, hospital registration, patient access, insurance verification, or a related healthcare setting. Experience with insurance verification, prior authorizations, and benefit interpretation. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and managed care plans. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Preferred Experience working in an ambulatory surgery center. Skills & Attributes Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
