Job Description

Fall River Health Services is looking for a Patient Access Representative in Hot Springs, SD. In this position, the employee enters and verifies demographic and insurance information, identifies and collects patient financial obligations, and registers or admits the patient. This position will be cross-trained to register ambulatory and emergency departments. The individual is ultimately responsible for assisting patients and families via phone, in the emergency department, or in the clinic, and works closely with clinic and billing office representatives and providers. This position is customer service-driven, and the individual must have the ability to effectively promote a positive patient and family experience, exhibit empathy, engage in compassionate collections, and demonstrate strong communication skills. Responsibilities Obtain and verify patient identity, demographic, and registration information; effectively communicate the purpose for and the requirements of all required patient documents. Must be able to complete and understand the differences between registrations in the ambulatory and emergency department settings. "Arrive" patients: Clinic outpatients and ancillary appointments for both scheduled and walk-in patients. Complete financial registration responsibilities, including but not limited to creating guarantor accounts, interpreting eligibility requirements, collecting document signatures, insurance card scanning, taking patient photos, collecting patient payments, and creating financial estimates. Counsel patients on prior authorization, referral requirements, insurance networks, covered services, and financial responsibility forms. Work closely with the operating room caregivers and expedite requests for changes to admissions, patient class or attending information. Provide patients with the information on the financial assistance policy and application process, explaining alternatives and routing patients without clearance to Community Health Worker for assistance. Complete the health screening questions with patients. Greet patients and visitors to the office Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence Resolve all non-clinical questions within the scope of knowledge while providing excellent customer service on the phone and/or in person Manages, directs, and responds to incoming office correspondence as deemed appropriate, including mail, email, faxes, and telephone calls, and forward queries to the appropriate caregiver Attends and provides feedback for departmental caregiver meetings. Follows the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements for checking medical necessity and communicates relevant coverage/eligibility information to the patient Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for Medicare beneficiaries in accordance with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standard Perform cash posting following department guidelines Abides by organizational and HIPPA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights
Compensation:
$18.77-$21.97 per hour. Candidates with five or more years of relevant experience may be eligible for higher starting pay.
Requirements:
One (1) year of experience in a healthcare, call center, business, financial or insurance related field preferred One (1) year of experience in a customer service related field required Education/Experience/Licensure G raduate of a certified medical office-training course preferred.
