Job Description

PRIMARY TASKS/DUTIES
Performs various clerical duties in department. Prepares and maintains medical records as well as all intake/ patient information. Coordinates physician charge processing and works with staff to ensure completeness and accuracy of charge inputting data accordingly. Answers patient inquiries about their account information, insurance filing, co-pays, etc. or directs callers to appropriate department. Takes patient co-pays. Schedules visits, tests and procedures as directed. Utilize computers, adding machines, fax machines, phones, credit card device, and other related office equipment in the fulfillment of assigned duties. Communicate verbally and/or by writing with staff members, patients and their families. Ensure all paperwork required for the registration process is prepared accurately and timely. Maintain accurate, thorough scanning and filing of all paperwork. Entering messages in the system for nursing and providers Participates in meetings and training as required to include Health Disparities Collaborative, PCMH and NCQA accreditation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
Function in a multi-tasking, multiple priorities environment, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Communicate with a diverse, sometimes difficult, patient/customer population. Will be required to successfully manage patients and families in often stressful or conflict situations. Utilize a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect, enter, process, file patient records and documentation. Answering multiple telephone lines and scheduling patient's appointments. Assist with the follow up on ER/Hospital visits Assist with the gap closure with insurance companies Other duties may be assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak read, write and understand English. Professional Demonstrated "skilled" business office experience. Demonstrated success in communication, customer service or working with the general public, preferably in a primary care facility. Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient situations. Demonstrated success in general computer competence including basic Word and potential to be trained on specific software for patient information, billing and communication. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Physical/Environmental Most of work is performed in a medical office setting shared by others. Must have capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking office environment. May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Positon requires hand manipulative skills for word processing and writing. Must be able to hear verbal conversations over the phone and in-person with background noise. Must be able to consistently identify objects and persons at a distance and read fine print on computer and various forms. Light work-exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
