GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the School Nurse in the health clinic. Assists with direct services to students and staff related to medical issues. Responsible for providing assistance with general health assessment and any necessary treatment and or referral for all students and staff who report to the clinic. Assists with daily and PRN medication.ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists sick or injured students (calls parents of ill/injured students and assists until parent arrives) and staff, performs routine and emergency first aid; Administers medication to appropriate students, with parental permission and a doctor's order for prescription medication; keeps medication permission forms on file; Maintains student health records, reviews records of entering students for immunizations, ensures all components of School Health Entrance Requirement are complete, notes health conditions documented on forms, collects information for state reports, and keeps emergency information up to date; Administer individual screening of vision and hearing, height, weight, dental/oral, and scoliosis; evaluates, refers and follows up as required by Virginia school law and School Board policy; Ensures compliance with all laws protecting the confidentiality of medical information and obtains written consent of parent/guardian to share information; Performs clerical duties including typing, filing and duplicating related to health services; Assists in enforcing rules and discipline; performs student supervision duties as required; Advises administrators, teachers, and cafeteria staff (with consent) regarding all students with food allergies; develops or obtains care plans for students with food allergies and advises school personnel in recognizing the signs of food allergies and the appropriate steps to take including the administration of epinephrine; Performs related work as required.Qualifications:
KSA's, EducationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of general clerical duties, health education and OSHA. Must have the ability and skills to perform CPR and administer first aid. Good communication, medical judgment, computer skills, and organization. Must be able to make appropriate medical judgments, consult with school nurse when necessary, maintain student records, and provide health education. Contacts with students, parents, and staff may be non-cooperative and require diplomacy, skillful and thoughtful debate, tact and confidentiality.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
Valid certification as EMT, CNA, or CMA.Preferred:
At least two years as an EMT or CNA. Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid from a recognized provider (e.g., American Heart Association). Terms of EmploymentLOCATION

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment. Duties are typically performed in a school clinic. Occasional lifting of objects up to 40 pounds and moving of students weighing up to 150 pounds with assistive equipment may be necessary. Position requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and grasping. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is possible. Occasional movement of students by wheelchair and other mechanical devices may be necessary. Daily close and personal contact with students and regular contact with school teachers.
