Overview We are seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in respiratory care, including ventilator management, airway procedures, and critical care. Responsibilities Assess patients' respiratory conditions through detailed evaluation of vital signs, pulmonary function tests, and medical history. Administer respiratory therapy treatments such as oxygen therapy, nebulization, and medication delivery in accordance with physician orders. Manage ventilator systems for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, ensuring proper operation and patient safety. Perform airway management procedures including intubation and suctioning to maintain airway patency. Monitor patient responses during therapy sessions, adjusting treatment plans based on physiology knowledge and clinical observations. Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility's emergency plan. Follows established infection control policies and procedures. Participates in daily, weekly, and/or monthly rehabilitative and interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss residents' therapy progression in relation to discharge planning for residents receiving respiratory therapy services as designated by the Rehabilitation Director. Identifies breath sounds, recognizes abnormal breath sounds, recognizes abnormal arterial blood gases, identifies amount and character of secretions, determine need for supplemental oxygen/suction Ability to correctly maintain, operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot blood gas analyzers, Oximetry and related instrumentation. Ability to perform basic life support maneuvers efficaciously, such as maintenance of a patent anatomical airway, external cardiac compression, and artificial ventilation by way of mouth-to-mouth, bag-and-mask and related ventilatory techniques. Ability to maintain, monitor, measure and adjust mechanical lung ventilators appropriately to assure proper function and to ascertain therapeutic effectiveness. Skills Extensive knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment such as ventilators and oxygen delivery systems. Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to respiratory health. Proven experience in critical care environments including ICU, Level I Trauma Centers, or Level II Trauma Centers. Ability to perform patient assessments accurately and respond swiftly in acute care situations. Proficiency in medication administration related to respiratory treatments and emergency interventions like Basic Life Support (BLS). Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare professionals and patients alike. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, family and staff. Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace. Must be able and willing to move intermittently throughout the workday. Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position. May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
Qualifications:
Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program. Current license as a Respiratory Therapist as required by the state of California. One-year full time experience as a Respiratory Therapist. Current CPR/BLS Certification.
