Job Description:
The Respiratory Therapist provides Respiratory care to all age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adult and geriatrics. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing all modes of respiratory therapy using therapist driven protocols, along with arterial blood gas collection and analysis. The candidate will also be responsible for Critical Care of the adult patient, using a progressive protocol for weaning ventilator patients, V60 BiPAP machines, Bronchoscopy assists and emergency airway management. They will be working in a Level II SCN providing Bubble CPAP and short-term vent management. Along with inpatient therapy, the Respiratory Department provides services to the Emergency Department, Inpatient Psychiatric floor and outpatient services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:o Provides direct patient care under physician orders and within the scope of services and licensure lawso Works collaboratively with providerso Reviews current orders in area of responsibility and ensures patients receive treatments as orderedo Administers medications via hand held nebulizer, MDI and new modes of delivery as establishedo Assesses patients throughout the treatment and interventions cycleo Completes and updates plans of care o Ensures ventilator parameters are set according to physician orderso Enters set and actual patient settings on flow sheetso Checks and documents alarm parameterso Completes documentation legiblyo Assesses and performs daily spontaneous breathing trial o Calibrates inhaled nitric oxide systemo Administers inhaled nitric oxide in cardiac catherization laboratory, through ventilator and assists with administration of nitric oxide in the operating room.o Administers helium-oxygen therapyo Sets up BIPAP and adjusts parameters per augmentation order seto Sets up patients on Non Invasive Ventilationo Performs non bronchial alveolar lavage procedureso Assists during procedures o Assists ventilated patients during transporto Assists to transition ventilator patients on EMS portable ventilators until transfer occurs o Responds to MET calls, codes blue, trauma calls and other emergencieso Performs CPR as needed o Participates with collaborative research projectso Draws arterial blood gases and sends to laboratory for analysiso Performs bedside spirometry, negative inspiratory force and vital capacity measurementso Takes initiative to review equipment and procedures to remain proficient o Assists and responds to nurses regarding questions on respiratory related issueso Participates on committees or task forceso Demonstrates flexibility to accept assignments o Develops proficiency in new respiratory practices and initiatives o Completes patient charges, daily events, equipment set up and testing inclusive of sticker check offo Ensures frequent visibility when covering critical care areas; attends provider roundso Organizes and manages time and workflow effectivelyo Maintains a patient focused and centric approach
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy from an Accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Massachusetts LicenseCertified Respiratory Therapist - Registered Respiratory Therapist PreferredCurrent BLS certification
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skillsWorking knowledge of PC's.

Excellent Oral and Written Communication skills.

Ability to impart specialized clinical and medical information to members of the health care team; physician, nurses
Experience:
Experience as a Staff Respiratory Therapist with a focus on critical care preferred
Pay Range:
$40.78 - $60.59The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
