The main duties of this position is to go via ambulance to referring facilities and transport critically ill neonates/pediatric patients. The RT will work at the top of their licensure and work alongside a critical care nurse.

Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of respiratory care to critical pediatric/neonatal patients who require a high level of clinical expertise. Responsibilities Provides care to acutely and critically ill patients in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment. These patients are facing life-threatening problems with varying needs, which require extensive respiratory care protocols, therapies and mechanical assistance. Educates patients and their families on respiratory conditions/disease processes, management of ventilatory support and therapeutic interventions, infection prevention techniques, and essential daily tasks to prepare for next transition to care. Demonstrates technical expertise and critical thinking skills required to provide highly technical ventilatory support modalities in critical care units by serving on at least one specialty RT support or core 'team':
  • ECMO Specialist
  • Bronchoscopy Team
  • Newborn Transport Team
  • VDR Team
  • Sleep Lab Technician
  • Asthma Educator (required Asthma Educator Certification) Demonstrates competency and clinical expertise in evaluating respiratory status, interventions and monitoring of intensive care patients, including skills necessary to work in neonatal, cardiac and pediatric ICUs.
Strives for excellence in patient care; keeps patients safe from adverse events. Seeks learning and teaching opportunities in an effort to further develop and perfect skills and improve overall quality of care. Participates in activities that promote safety, quality, and regulatory compliance for critically ill children. Participates in professional development and lifelong learning. Develops, implements, makes recommendations, and revises respiratory interventions as a component of the patient's plan of care in collaboration with other members of the health care team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of care. Evaluates patient's response to complex critical treatment modalities and modifies respiratory therapy modalities accordingly throughout the patient's stay. Demonstrates ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships in patient/family environment. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
