Position Summary:
The Respiratory Care Student (RCS) under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures in accordance with physician orders. The RCS will assist with procedures including but not limited, assisting with endotracheal intubation, extubations, tracheotomy tube changes, capnography monitoring. Other duties include evaluating appropriateness of medical orders, transporting patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection, assuring safe operations of devices in the MRI, and assisting with Bronchoscopy. The RCS will be proficient in the application of mechanical ventilator modalities, Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV); Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP). The RCS will provide patient and therapeutic assessments to assure optimal medical decisions, review and revise policy, procedures and practice guidelines, assist in the evaluation of products/equipment, and maintain environment and supply inventory of assigned unit. The RCS must be willing to report back to work during any emergency situation, this includes if needed during inclement weather, mass casualty, internal disaster, etc. The RCP willplete other duties as assigned.Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Currently enrolled in a CoARC approved School of Respiratory Therapy Program required.Experience:
Second Year student with one-year of experience as a student in a respiratory therapy program required.Special Skills:
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with peers, nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required. Stronganizational skills required. Strong PC skills required. Strong verbalmunication skills required.
