Job Description

Job Summary Provides advanced evaluation, stabilization, and critical care management for patients aged 0-17 years old, including the extremely preterm infant, requiring transport between facilities. Ensures safe and effective care during transport, following established clinical protocols and regulations Essential Functions All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Performs detailed physical assessment, establishes a plan of care and performs advanced critical care stabilization for patients being transported following designated protocols and procedures to include all advanced respiratory therapy as approved by the Program's Medical Control Physicians and SC DPH Division of EMS. The RT performs airway maintenance including proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, intubations, and tracheostomy care. Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation. Independently manages both advanced invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Exhibits effective communication and intentional compassion, ensuring professional bedside interactions with patients and families, referring physicians, outlying facilities, and EMS support personnel. Provides maintenance and follow-up for equipment and supply needs to ensure system readiness. Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. Collects data to assist in regulatory compliance, quality improvement and patient satisfaction issues. Initiates various specialty skills to include, but not limited to endotracheal intubation, blood gas sampling from capillary, venous, and arterial sites, umbilical venous insertion, and needle decompression. Ability to perform duties on all transport modalities to include rotor-wing, fixed-wing, or ground ambulance. Provides a complete and accurate report to Medical Control. Makes recommendations to medical directors during transport as appropriate. Accurately and completely documents patient care via electronic software. Demonstrates responsible stewardship of organizational resources, including supplies, time, and productivity, and performing other duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education - Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy. Graduate of a school for Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or a successor accrediting authority. Experience - Three (3) years of inpatient and/or ED experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years of Level III NICU and PICU experience. In Lieu Of NA Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the state the team member is working. RRT from NBRC (credentials must be maintained) BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE and PALS. Advanced specialty certification within two (2) years of hire. A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and experience with various ventilators including the High Frequency Oscillator Ventilator (HFOV), Jet Ventilator, TXP, and Nitric delivery systems.
