Competitive Job Summary As an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) ERRT (Engineering Rapid Response Team) Specialist, develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment, when necessary, data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable. Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment, or a program function. Provides technical interpretations of design requirements as they apply to I&C control systems used in nuclear plant process control, monitoring, and protection systems. Provides engineering recommendations and alternatives for solving complex multidiscipline operational problems involving plant system and component performance. Develops solutions and engineering options to support safe, reliable and efficient system operation. Develops and performs tests to demonstrate that design requirements and specifications are met for modified systems. Performs work which involves complex systems and engineering practices and may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting I&C requirements and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of I&C system precedents and performance. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of I&C engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually result from progressive experience. Supervisory Responsibilities May supervise, coordinate, and review the work of multidiscipline engineers and technicians or staff specialist may be assisted on projects by other engineers or technicians. Supervision Received Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Consults with ERRT Manager concerning unusual problems and developments. Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific) Demonstrated high proficiency in one or more technical areas. Demonstrated working knowledge in technical areas achieved at Senior Level and as described on performance appraisal. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and negotiate at all levels of engineering and management. Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard) The minimum requirements below meet or exceed
ANSI/ANS 3.1-2014
standards.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other related engineering degrees from an accredited curriculum required, plus appropriate continuing education.
Experience:
Seven years minimum commercial nuclear experience, with at least 1 year of nuclear power plant experience. Certifications/Licenses/Etc.: Licensed Professional Engineer desirable. Membership in professional and technical societies is desirable. Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume "on-call" rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability. Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVAN procedures during peak periods. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
