Job Summary:
Assess, treat, and care for patients of all ages with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment. Responsible for providing Cardiopulmonary Care services in accordance with specific physician's orders, department policies and procedures. Supervised by the Respiratory Supervisor.Job Qualifications:
Current State Respiratory Therapist License required. Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy required. Basic computer skills required. Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification. BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Essential Responsibilities of thePosition:
Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects of oxygen delivery. Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understand the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each. Performs Blood Gas Analysis and/or Arterial Sampling, and labels specimens and obtains blood gas value results and submits to ordering physician. Analyze and documents critical values and results for blood gases. Run external quality controls and proficiency testing as required. Performs daily maintenance of equipment and documents required tasks and corrective action and plan when necessary. Obtains blood samples, performs blood gas analysis, administers, treatments, including medications by inhalation, and provides general respiratory care services for medical/surgical patients with appropriate equipment. Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. Performs arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure. Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures. Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record following completion of any service. Maintains a through knowledge of all departmental forms, flow charts, logbooks and their proper usage. Performs EKG's, sends reports to physicians who requested then and files reports in department, according to department procedures. Maintains knowledge and understanding of the difference in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including pediatric and geriatric patients.- Maintain knowledge of various method of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment, remain alert, assess possible side effects to oxygen delivery.
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments, understand and monitor possible side effects associated with therapy.
- Set-up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.
- Perform arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood gas samples analysis, and understands the possible complication and contraindications associated with the procedure.

- Maintain knowledge of various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment, remain alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery.
- Perform all duties as outline in the "ON-CALL shift" that the therapist is assigned to work.
- Perform all additional duties as assigned by the Department Director.
- Perform PFT, EKG, 24 and 48 hour HOLTER monitoring, send reports to physicians who requested them and file reports in the department, according to department procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the difference in technique and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including infant, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patient.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of oxygen concentrations and medication doses as they relate to patients of varying ages, including infant, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patient.
- Manages and operate equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
