Assigned Students Job Goal:
To help reduce or eliminate speech/language/communication problems that interferes with the individual student's ability to derive benefit from the district's educational program.Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Alabama certification in speech/language pathology. Master's degree in speech/language therapy or communication disorders. Experience in a school setting working with students with a variety of disabilities. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence and/or financial information. Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Such alternatives to the above qualification as state, federal and local law and the Board may require.Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals and priorities. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech/language improvement. Provides a program to meet the individual communication needs of students Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments. Assists in proper referral of individuals to agencies and specialist in the community as appropriate. Provides individualized programs of therapy to meeting individual student's needs and correct existing speech or language disabilities. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by making suggestions for the student's daily activities. Provides information, support and consultation to parents and families, when appropriate. Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning communication. Keeps thorough and ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech/language services. Utilizes SETS to maintain information on referred, screened and eligible students. Participates as a team member in the identification of and assessment of student's communication, social, behavioral, emotional and academic problems. Works in coordination with teachers, administrators, consultants and other appropriate professionals in identifying, prioritizing, developing, and implementing IEPs to meet the communication needs of students. Utilizes and implements assistive technology devices/plans Provides social skills training to students in such as, but not limited to, social skills enhancements, appropriate peer interactions, conflict resolutions, etc. Plans and confers with the classroom teacher concerning any communication problems affecting students. Maintains frequent and substantive communication with staff. Complies with local, state and federal regulations regarding special education records, reports, and services. Maintains and submits required reports, records and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Cooperates with all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the school. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).Salary:
